Army Association of Victoria donation

Mildura Base Hospital's Oncology Department has received a boost from the generosity of a Mildura-based group of ex-service personnel.
The Army Association of Victoria was formed in Mildura in 1995 by a group of people who served together and focuses on fundraising to support military personnel and their families.
AAV members are familiar faces cooking up a storm at the Langtree Mall, outside K-Mart and at the Mildura Field Days, as well as at their weekly Meat Raffles at the Mildura RSL.
Their raffling, sausage-sizzling and hamburger-flipping allowed a donation of $3000 to be handed over to the Mildura Base Hospital's Oncology Department at the association's most recent meeting.
The vice president Alan Harris said members enjoyed fundraising for various causes, including the hospital.
"A $3000 donation represents a fair few sausages, I know that, because I'm one of the cooks – but we all enjoy it because we have a lot of fun and we're doing something for the community," Alan said.
"A lot of people support our barbecues throughout the year and we like them to be able to see their money going straight back into the community right here in Mildura," he said.
"Nearly all of our members have been touched in one way or another by cancer, so we thought the Oncology Department is where we would like the money to be used."
The cheque was presented to the hospital's director of corporate services Julia Morgan.
"We really value the financial support organisations such as the Army Association provide, because they make a direct improvement to the quality of care and comfort levels of our patients," Ms Morgan said.
"We always ensure each donation is directed specifically to the product or service intended – and in cases where a donation is not specified, the hospital directs funds into the area of greatest need," she said.
"Donations never go into consolidated revenue."
The Army Association of Victoria is based at the Mildura RSL Club and is open to anyone with a service number.
